Fired Mets manager recently texted David Stearns

It seems there are less hard feelings these days around the New York Mets for former manager Buck Showalter, who was fired at the start of David Stearns’ tenure last October.
The longtime MLB manager was let go by Stearns, a person he never met face-to-face or talked to, The New York Post reported more than a year ago, days before ex-Mets general manager Billy Eppler resigned amid an MLB investigation.
Despite the history, which included Showalter announcing his own fate on the last day of the season, the free agent manager still reached out to Stearns, the Mets’ president of baseball operations, and manager Carlos Mendoza when the season concluded.
“It was a great gesture from [Showalter],” Stearns told The Post on Wednesday at the GM meetings. “Obviously he had a lot to do with moving the organization forward, so it was really nice to hear from him.”
Showalter went 176-148 as Mets manager, returning the organization to the playoffs in 2022 for the first time in six years as a 101-win team and then presiding over a team that did not meet expectations in 2023.
The 68-year-old did not manage this season and his contract with the Mets expired this week, per The Post.
